RAM and Kitchen

Today i ask to my roomate to do assistance for fixed my laptop. because i need to do installation a software and etc. and my roomate directly help me to fixed it. i try to install the new one anti virus product from karspersky to change from AVG, after he finnished it, i made a short conversation with him, in that situation he ask me to improved the RAM (Random access memory) and Hardisk for my laptop. Then i ask him why i should improved my RAM and harddrive? and he made a statement,

With Laptop you can think of the RAM as like a kitchen table where you work and the hard drive as a cabinet out in the garage. Anything that won't fit on the kitchen table has to stay in the cabinet in the garage. The kitchen table is the only place you can work. If the table is full and you need a different part or a different tool for your project you have to take something off the kitchen table and take it to the cabinet and get the other part or tool out of the cabinet. More RAM is like a larger kitchen table. You don't have to go to the garage as often which is good because going to the garage really slows down the project. and after that the conversation is make me think i should improved my RAM to get bettter performance.
